The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) and Capita who operate the Gas Safe Registration scheme are pleased to announce a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been agreed between the two organisations to promote gas safety awareness to consumers, landlords, tenants and the rental property sector.
Commenting on this initiative, David Cox, Managing Director, said:
“It is vital that agents and landlords who are legally responsible for their tenants make sure maintenance and annual safety checks on gas appliances are carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
This initiative will undoubtedly support good practice in a situation where lives and individuals well-being could be put at risk as badly fitted and poorly serviced appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas. You can’t see it, taste it or smell it, but it can kill quickly with no warning”.
Representing the Gas Safe Register, Abrar Hussain Aziz. Stakeholder Manager, said
“Gas Safe Register is the official list of gas engineers who are qualified to work safely and legally on gas appliances. By law, all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register. It replaced CORGI. Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix or service your appliances and always check the engineer’s Gas Safe Register ID card.
We are delighted that ARLA given its leading position in the rental property sector understand the importance of promoting this good practice, and together our organisations will that work hard to promote the message that work on gas appliances should only be undertaken by Gas Safe registered engineers”.
ARLA is the UK’s foremost professional and regulatory body for letting agents; representing over 8,000 members. Our members operate to professional standards far higher than the law demands and we campaign for greater regulation in this growing and increasingly important sector of the property market. By using an ARLA Licensed agent, consumers have the peace of mind their agent will provide a professional service and their money is safeguarded by a Client Money Protection scheme.
