Find out how our supporters helped to spread the word about gas safety
Our supporters got up to some great activities to help us celebrate the tenth Gas Safety Week in 2020. We're looking forward to some more great support in the next decade of GSW!
Trevor Smallpeice, Gas Utilisation (Downstream) Advisor:
“We’re delighted to again be supporting Gas Safety Week and continue to highlight the importance of staying gas safe when carrying out property refurbishments and repairs. We have refreshed our fact sheet and two risk assessments for those non-gas workers and registered gas engineers undertaking property repairs/refurbishments. These are free to download from the IGEM LBF website and should improve gas safety on these types of projects”.
BiKBBI were on board to support Gas Safety Week.
Damian Walters, CEO at BiKBBI:
"Gas Safety Week is an incredibly important initiative that has our full support, as does the support generally of Gas Safety for the other 51 weeks of the year! Sharing the GSW message with our stakeholders is one of the ways in which we support the amplification of the message, something we’re delighted to be involved in".
Cadent lent the support of their Safety Seymour campaign to Gas Safety Week. Safety Seymour is a cuddly caped crusader with the goal of protecting children against the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO).
Google Nest Pro shared important gas safety information with their many installers to share with customers ahead of and during the week.
Wales & West Utilities keenly supported the week, focusing on the legal requirement for CO alarms for rental properties in Wales.
Clive Book, Head of Emergency Services at Wales & West Utilities:
"At Wales & West Utilities our top priority is to keep our customers and colleagues safe. We’re proud to have supported Gas Safety Week since it was set up, and it’s a great annual opportunity to remind us all of the simple steps we can all take to Stay Gas Safe."
Northern Gas Networks had this to say about supporting the week:
"As the gas distribution network for the North of England, Northern Gas Networks is supporting this year’s Gas Safety Week. We supply gas to more than 2.7 million properties across our region, and offering our customers gas safety advice and support is an important part of what we do. For example, 1,200 of our emergency gas engineers now use lifesaving Carbon Monoxide detection equipment every day. For Gas Safety Week 2020, we will be raising the profile of the National Gas Emergency Service telephone number."
SGN got behind Gas Safety Week.
Katie Lobhan, Comms Officer, SGN:
"We’re really proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week and helping to keep the nation safe for the tenth year running"
A quote from Liquid Gas UK on the week:
"Safety and compliance for the use, storage, transportation and handling of LPG is at the heart of what we do at Liquid Gas UK. Supporting and promoting Gas Safety Week to our members and wider audience makes perfect sense. We are pleased to work with Gas Safe Register to ensure anyone using LPG or gas in their homes does so safely."
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service promoted the week on social media, and tied it in with their 'Fire Kills' campaign.
Gary Oakford, Area Manager, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service:
"Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is delighted to support Gas Safety Week. We have for a number of years been actively engaged in supporting the Gas Safe Register in the promotion of its key messages, and in particular the wider dangers of Carbon Monoxide. This year’s campaign focuses on the impact to individuals, families and communities who are impacted by gas explosions. Fire & Rescue Services have in the past responded to these types of incidents along with other blue light partners and have witnessed first-hand the damage that is caused and in some cases the loss of life or serious injury. It is vitally important that anyone undertaking gas work at home uses a Gas Safe registered engineer, the importance of which should not be understated".
Propertymark got involved in Gas Safety Week. here's what they had to say:
"Propertymark will again be pledging its support for Gas Safety Week by raising awareness about the importance of gas safety to landlords, prospective landlords, estate and letting agents, and the public. It is crucial that everyone is fully aware about the legal obligations surrounding gas safety, the detrimental impact of carbon monoxide and the critical part we play in ensuring a property is well-maintained. We consistently provide our member agents and the public with useful resources in relation to the upkeep and legalities of properties, with gas safety playing a very important part."
