dean's story warns against illegal gas work

Dean image

Dean's property suffered damage during the floods in June 2007.  His next door neighbour recommended a fitter and gave him the number.  The fitter seemed genuine and knew what he was talking about and said that he could do everything including gas to electrics and his paper work said he was registered.

His building work was good, he got someone else to do electrics but he put the gas cooker and fire in himself.  Dean even recommended him to his sister who had her boiler looked at by the fitter but a few months later her ceiling caved in - the gas boiler was at fault.  Dean then discovered that he had a gas leak in his home, caused by the shoddy work of the fitter, his gas had to be shut off and new floor boards were ripped up.

Dean said:

We are £1300 out of pocket.  He was convincing and reassuring saying 'of course he's registered'.  You don't think of asking for the card do you?  We didn't know to do this checking”

It's only since Dean had someone come and put it right that he can see what a proper registered engineer does. Even his sister's boiler had no safety shut off for the boiler - it was like murder.

Dangerous gas work can be deadly.  Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer.
